Description:
Drive technology in industry has been subject to rapid changes during the past years. The technical progress in communication-capable and network-based drive technology makes high demands on the knowledge of the professionals. The changes were sometimes fundamental. Many fields of drive technology are concerned.

For example:

  • Electric machines
  • Communication capable control devices
  • Electronic motor management
  • Controlled drives
  • Bus capable inverters
  • Monitoring devices
  • External and integrated safety functions
  • Industrial communication systems
  • Servo technology
  • Industrial ethernet
  • PROFINET
  • LWLan

All these changes require a well-founded training of the users which should provide them with a far-sighted acting competence.

The training concepts from ELABO TrainingsSysteme in the field of drive technology are close to practice and industry. Its training system Drive Technology consists of many individual, but combinable components, such as:

  • Frequency converter MICROMASTER 420
  • ET200S and Pro
  • Electronic motor management (EMM)
  • Soft starter, direct starter
  • Servo inverter MoviDrive

Learning Objectives:

  • Conducting load tests on DC, AC and three-phase machines
  • Plotting the characteristics of different motor types (DC, AC, servo, universal, Dahlander, etc.)
  • Setting and verifying the rated and other data on the motor plate in motor and generator operation
  • Examining the overload behaviour, testing the protective and control devices
  • Connecting and starting up electronic frequency converters in compliance with EMC regulations
  • Central operating and monitoring on the PC, connection to automation systems via PROFIBUS, PROFINET
  • Configuration, setup and commissioning of a three-phase drive with asynchronous motor
  • Integration into automatic installations via field bus
  • Parameterization of servo drives
  • Highly dynamic positioning

Applications:

The training system Drive Technology can be used in the following training situations:

  • Control of electric machines
    Star/delta circuit
    Direct starter
  • Selection and integration of drive systems
    Soft starter
    Reversing starter
    Bus capable inverter
  • Inegration of field bus systems
    PROFIBUS
    PROFINET
  • Control
    Frequency control
    Torque and speed control
    Controller optimization
    Position control
  • Automation
    Integration
Parameterization, programming and commissioning of a PLC
    Industrial communication

Special features:

The modules of the training system Drive Technology cover all the fields of drive technology. To allow training close to practice and with a high recognition effect, only industrial components are used. The modules are dressed didactically allowing the trainee to get quickly and effectively acquainted with the fundamentals of drive technology. This real-life equipment helps the trainee in developing acting competence with industrial standards. Modern drive systems would be unthinkable without control devices like frequency converters. There are various modules with frequency converters available for training the different performance classes, taking into account the bus capability of the frequency converters. This way, modern bus systems like PROFIBUS DP can be used for instance.

Servo technology is frequently used in modern installations. For a training system a servo inverter with tailored servo machine has many advantages. It allows load tests and plotting of characteristics. Such a machine test stand is very flexible and of multiple use.
The system can show its full function capacity however only in practical applications like positioning. A linear axis increases the educative effect even more.

The ELR (electronic load relay) was also dressed up for education. In practice it is used for monitoring and protecting electric machines, connected devices and processes. This system can, of course, be connected with field bus systems such as the PROFIBUS.
Programming and monitoring of the systems is effected by the appropriate industrial software. This software is adapted by us for didactic purposes to allow a quicker approach to it.
